POSITION:

Tenure track appointment for Elementary/Middle School Spanish Instructor – Beginning August 2008. Rank dependent upon qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A Master of Arts degree with an emphasis in Elementary/Middle School Spanish required.
  2. Appropriate Iowa licensure or eligibility for licensure required.
  3. Training in and experience with current best practice in Elementary/Middle School Spanish instruction preferred.
  4. Evidence of outstanding competence in teaching Elementary/Middle School Spanish preferred.
  5. Experience working with diverse groups of students and demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to reach each student preferred.
  6. Evidence of experimentation and innovation in program and course development preferred.
  7. Experience with interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and teaming preferred.
  8. Experience working with teacher education students preferred.
  9. Involvement with elementary/middle school reform initiatives preferred.
  10. College level Spanish instruction experience preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Instruction: Spanish at the elementary/middle school level at the Laboratory School.
  2. Interdisciplinary team involvement is an expectation.
  3. Teacher education: provide model teaching, assist and supervise teacher candidates as they observe and participate in the classroom, journal and reflect with teacher candidates and guide their instructional planning.
  4. Service to the university community, the students, and the State of Iowa, in committee and professional organizations.
  5. Outreach: to practicing professionals and research in one's field is an expectation.
