Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL)

The Institute for Educational Leadership
works with educators throughout the state to focus
on and clarify issues important to education in Iowa
and to address issues of significance to Iowa's school
districts. The IEL serves as a catalyst for informed
dialogue on educational issues impacting schools of
Iowa, the region and nation. The Institute often sponsors
working conferences that bring together educators,
university faculty, and private sector leaders to
explore challenges facing Iowa school administrators
and other leaders. more

Instructional
Resources & Technology Services (IRTS) web

IRTS makes the COE’s extensive library
of education-specific resources, including textbooks,
activities, and curricula, available to COE students
and faculty. In addition to its library of instructional
resources, IRTS maintains a collection of technology
resources – computers, digital cameras, LCD
projectors – that students and staff can use
for special projects or meetings. IRTS also provides
technical support to the COE and manages its many
computer labs and multimedia classrooms. more info

Multicultural Initiatives in Teaching (MIT)
The Multicultural Initiatives in Teaching Program addresses the critical need to increase the number of ethnically diverse educators teaching in Iowa schools. Iowa school districts with highly diverse student populations established a partnership with UNI to identify, encourage, and assist students of color to become teachers. The MIT Program serves as a resource to students of color before, during, and after their enrollment at UNI. more

Reading
Clinic
The UNI Reading Clinic is a division of the
Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
At the clinic, students enrolled in reading tutoring
classes provide clients one-to-one remedial tutoring
under the supervision of university faculty and graduate
assistants. Following the administration of diagnostic
and evaluative measures, each client receives an individually
designed remedial program. Tutoring times are arranged
with each child's family. There is a small materials
fee. Parents, teachers, or other educators can refer
children to the center.

Regents' Center for Early Development Education

The Regents' Center for Early Developmental
Education works to improve early childhood education
(birth through 8 years) in Iowa and beyond. Recognizing
that children construct knowledge, intelligence, personality,
and morality through active experimentation with physical
and social environments, the Center supports educational
efforts that emphasize children's interest, experimentation,
and cooperation. more

Technology Methods Lab (TML)
At the Technology Methods Lab, preservice
and professional teachers practice using computing
technology for teaching and learning. The TML works
to create and explore models for technology-rich K-12
classrooms. The lab is not a general purpose computing
lab, but an in-depth learning lab for innovative computing
applications in the UNI teacher education program.
