Valerie Becker’s scholarship support was made possible through the generosity of Charles and Dorothy Tubbs…
"We enjoy knowing that our scholarships for math and early childhood education majors will be assisting students who choose teaching as a career by lightening their financial burden.  Research has proven that students who work more than 15-20 hours per week are less likely to do well academically and participate in extracurricular activities.  Our wish is that this gift helps students make the most of their college experience."

Mary Kaiser Smith Elementary Education Scholarship (Recipient: Lori Reschly)
“I didn’t realize how much my undergraduate classes were valued until I enrolled at Drake University to pursue my master’s degree in supervision and administration. Credit was given to me for many required graduate classes, for which I was grateful. My reason for establishing scholarships was to help others fulfill their dreams.”
Mary Kaiser Smith-Class of 1949

Sally & Dan Frudden Scholarship (Recipient: Lori Reschly)
“One of the most important decisions we ever make is that to pursue a college education. Today that decision is complicated by the reality of the unprecedented and escalating costs associated with attending a public university. The price of a public university education is beginning to be comparable to a private college education and, consequently, the cost of attending UNI is a major consideration for students and their families. The future of these prospective students lies in the balance and a scholarship to UNI gives them the opportunity to have a more prosperous, productive future. What better reason can there be to endow a scholarship!”
Sally Frudden-Class of 1955

Louise M. Sorensen Scholarship (Recipient: Adam Zellmer)

“I didn’t have financial resources to attend college. It was the last year a high school graduate was eligible to teach in a rural school. I taught my first year after high school and went to Iowa State Teachers College (ISTC) in the summer and did so for the next two years. Then I had enough money saved to attend ISTC for a full year and get my 2-year degree. Then I taught in Sac City for a year so I could save money and return to ISTC to complete my BA. Once I was earning a salary I wanted to start a scholarship to help other students attend college.”
Louise Sorensen-Class of 1954
