Picture Stories: A Celebration of African American Illustrators
December 27, 2006 -- March 4, 2007

 

Celebrating the talents of contemporary African American children's book illustrators. Familiar folk tales are reinvented and embroidered into pictorial vignettes, portraits of heroes resound with strength and courage, and glimpses into ordinary lives reveal exceptional stories.

 

Event Schedule

January 20, 2007, 1:30-3:00 p.m.
Celebrate Kuumba with featured guest E. B. Lewis. Award-winning illustrator, E. B. Lewis, will read, "Circle Unbroken," followed by a book-signing and art activity.

 

January 20, 2007, 7-9 p.m.
Friends of the Hearst Annual Gathering. Meet illustrator E. B. Lewis and enjoy an evening filled with delicious soul foods, whines, and live jazz. Tickets available at 319-273-8641.

 

February 18, 2007, 1-3 p.m.
Darwin Turner Action Theatre. Local children will perform a theatrical version of a "Picture Stories" book, followed by a performance by the Darwin Turner Action Theatre inspired by the exhibit.
