"Breaking Barriers and Creating Alliances: Increasing Awareness and Sensitivity to Gender Identity"

(Inclement Weather Location: Seerley Hall- Great Reading Room)

This discussion will first identify inaccuracies and inconsistencies in our use of language. (What is sex, gender, orientation, attraction, identity?) Research will be outlined concerning gender identity and sexual orientation from psychological, mental health, social, and political views. Biases stemming from the binary perspective of gender will be brought to light. Lunch will conclude with sharing and discussing the ways that we can break gender barriers and embrace a non-binary system as well as create alliances - both straight alliances and those between gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals.

Bring a lunch, your friends and your thoughts. If you don't see us on top of the union, head to the Great Reading Room in Seerley!
