Capoeira is an art form that combines martial arts, music, acrobatics, and philosophy. Created by African as a way to rebel against oppression, it had to be disguised as a dance form in order to be allowed during the slavery in Brazil. Instructor Pedro Zogaib and his Cedar Valley students will host a special event to celebrate Black History Month by offering classes on Afro-Brazilian dance and Capoeira that are open to UNI students and the Cedar Valley community.
