“Outside In” presented by Dr. Hal S. Chase, introduction by Dr. Michael Blackwell

 

Dr. Hal S. Chase is currently an instructor of history for Des Moines Area Community College, a position he has occupied since 1989. Prior to DMACC, Dr. Chase was an associate professor of history for 13 years at Ball State University. He has also served as president for Farmers & Merchants Bancorp since 1984. Dr. Chase received his B.A. and M.A. in American History at Washington & Lee University (1965) and Stanford University (1966), respectively. He earned his Ph. D in American Civilization at the University of Pennsylvania in 1973.

 

His presentation today, “You Live What You Learn” in Outside In: African-American History in Iowa, is one of his several notable publications. He has also presented numerous times nationally, statewide and locally. Several people have benefi ted from the service of Dr. Chase, as he has helped with the Iowa Historical Foundation, United Negro College Fund-Iowa, Winterset Educational Foundation, DMACC S & H Scholarship Committee and “I’ll Make Me a World in Iowa” advisory board.
