Bharata Natyam: Dance of India
Thursday, October 18th, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Center for Multicultural Education - UNI

Explore the rich tradition of this classical dance style from southern India. Through the dramatic art of story-telling, Bharata Natyam is known for its grace, purity, tenderness, staturesque, and sculpturesque poses. It uplifts the dancer and the beholder to a higher level of spiritual consciousness. Dancers and musicians will demonstrate this traditional art form and will conduct a question and answer session.

Main Show
Friday, October 19, 7:30 p.m.
Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center

There will be a reception preceding the performance at 6:30.

Fifteen dancers and musicians from India, Malaysia and the United States will power their way through Dance Yatra, a vibrant journey rooted in the finest traditions of Indian music and dance handed down through generations. This high-voltage performance consists of intensely physical and superbly coordinated footwork from South Asia's Bharata Natyam dance tradition, to the deeply luminous technique of Odissi that was performed by temple dancers in Easter India. This high-spirited work is accomplished by master musicians from India.
