UNI Alum Receives Distinguished Achievement Award for Education from USITT

Judy Adamson, 1967 graduate from the University of Northern Iowa, was honored with a Distinguished Achievement Award at the 2012 United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) Annual Conference.  The Distinguished Achievement Award honors an individual who has established a meritorious career record in a specific field of expertise in any area of design or technology in the performing arts or entertainment industry.  Areas of achievement include disciplines represented by the Commissions of USITT, scenic design, lighting design, sound design, technical direction, costume design & technology, theatre architecture, theatrical consulting, production management, stage or arts management, costume direction, entertainment technology, education or a convergence of these disciplines.

Adamson has been the Costume Director in the Department of Dramatic Art and Head of the Costume Production program at the University of North Carolina since 1993.  Prior to she draped clothes with companies on Broadway, with the American Ballet Theatre, and PlayMakers Repertory Company.  Adamson is also a long-time member of USITT.  She compiles and maintains information on costume education programs throughout the country called Survey of Costume Programs in the United States.  

Adamson was presented the Distinguished Achievement Award at an Education Commission session during the 2012 USITT Annual Conference in Long Beach, California.
