Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Liberal Arts Core
The Dean's Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence in the Liberal Arts Core is presented to outstanding instructors in the Liberal Arts Core. Each faculty awardee receives $1000 and an engraved plaque, to be presented at the CHAS faculty meeting in the following fall semester.
Any faculty member, permanent, term or temporary, in the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences who has not received the award in the last five years is eligible. Criteria for selection are as follows:
- The ability to guide and inspire students in general education courses in a way which extends beyond mere popularity with students.
- The ability to encourage and foster intellectual inquiry in the classroom and/or laboratory through the generation of new ideas, the discovery of new information, and the development of new skills in a cooperative effort with students.
- The development and implementation of stimulating and successful teaching strategies and pedagogy in general education courses.
Each department head may nominate one faculty member from his/her department based on the stated criteria. Final selection is made by the Council of Department heads.
