About the College
Fourteen departments and three interdisciplinary programs, offering over 70 majors, make up the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences.
CHAS prepares its graduates for learning and living in a rapidly changing society in a host of careers. Some students pursue teaching careers; others will go into professions such as speech therapy or physical therapy, or into one of the physical sciences. A number of CHAS majors will become professional performers as actors, artists or musicians. The largest number of students in the college, however, are present because of their general education courses in the humanities; in literature or writing courses; in philosophy and religion courses; in science and mathematics courses; in appreciation courses in art, music and theatre; in language courses; or in other electives.
