The Rules

Who can participate
Open to all Iowa students in grades one through six.

Themes
Posters should focus upon one or both of the following themes:
1.) Energy conservation/efficiency

2.) Renewable sources of energy such as wind, biomass, and solar

Criteria for Judging

Posters are judged on a variety of criteria including accuracy of information; creativity and originality in design; color and effectiveness. The criterion of effectiveness includes educating others about energy efficiency/conservation or renewable energy techniques for Iowa. Two winning posters will be selected from each grade level.

Requirements

1) Each student may enter only one poster;
2) Each student must create his or her own poster;

3) Posters may be created in any medium;

4) All entries will become the property of the University of Northern Iowa;

5) All entries must be submitted unfolded;

6) All entries must have a label located on the back lower right corner. On the label, print or type the student's name, grade level, teacher's name, school address, mailing address, school name, principal's name and school telephone number.oster size should range between 11" x 17" and 18" x 24"and in horizontal or vertical formats
.

Awards

A plaque and $100 U.S. Savings Bond are awarded for each winning poster. Posters will also be used in energy education activities throughout the state. All entries will receive a certificate of participation.

Deadline
Posters must be postmarked by Feb. 1 for local competitions and Mar. 1 for state competition.
