About the Project |

With support from the Iowa Energy Center, the CEEE sponsors the annual Iowa Energy Poster Contest. Posters are solicited from elementary students across the state in grades one through six. More than 2000 entries were submitted last year. Submissions are judged at the CEEE by representatives from the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives, the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities, the Iowa Utility Association and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. |

Posters focused on one or both themes that are relevant to Iowa's current status as an importer of almost all primary energy. It is estimated that Iowa's economy could save $5 billion with better practice of energy efficiency techniques or by developing or harnessing home-grown renewable sources. |

These two ideas are echoed in the wonderful posters from students across the state. Two winners are selected from each grade. The winners receive a $100 savings bond and are honored in a formal ceremony at the end of the academic year. Posters can also be compiled into an attractive energy calendar. The project provides a way for Iowa primary school teachers to incorporate energy concepts into their curricula by offering recognition to participants who create an educational poster on either energy efficiency/conservation or alternate/renewable energy resources. The goal of the Iowa Energy Poster Contest is to educate students on wise energy use and its effect on the environment and economy. The contests encourages students to put their knowledge about energy efficiency into practice. |
