Iowa Greenhouse Gas Emissions 2000 Study
A student of the Environmental Studies Masters program at the University of Northern Iowa , Tracy Wollin, has recently completed her study of Iowa 's greenhouse gas emissions from 2000 and the major causes of these emissions. The basis of this study comes from a global conference that was held in 1997 in Kyoto , Japan . The goal of this conference was to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that were allowed to enter the environment that play a major role in global warming and climate changes.
The US holds only 5% of the world's population but contributes 25% of the greenhouse gas emissions. Regulations and laws have been implemented in Canada , Russia and Western Europe but the US government has yet to ratify the Kyoto agreement.
In preparation for the reductions of greenhouse gases the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) offered states the opportunity to conduct an inventory of the levels of greenhouse gas emissions for the year of 1990. The study done by Wollin is a follow-up to the 1990 inventory, which compares the differences between 1990 and 2000. The complete report will be posted here as it is released.
