Iowa Recycling Association: A network of diverse members dedicated to advancing cost-effective and sustainable waste reduction and recycling activities to help improve the quality of life within Iowa communities.  The Association provides a forum to learn about waste management issues; to tap into and exchange resources and information; to positively influence recycling efforts in communities and workplaces; to add value to recyclable material; and to create demand for recycled products.  Our website hosts recycling education and legislative resources, conference and workshop information, and archived copies of "I! Iowa Society of Solid Waste Operations

The Iowa Society of Solid Waste Operations (ISOSWO) is a statewide organization whose members are directly involved in solid waste management issues.Members include public and private sector employees, along with consultants, engineers, planners, regulators and local elected officials. ISOSWO represents primarily public sector agencies in the solid waste management industry by:

1) Providing educational and training opportunities for its members;

2) Promoting cost effective and environmentally sound solid waste management practices;

3) Educating elected officials and the general public about solid waste management issues;

4) Working with state regulators to ensure regulations and policies that promote cost effective and environmentally sound management of solid waste in Iowa.

Landfills, Solid Waste Agencies and other Local Resources

There are approximately 70 municipal solid waste landfills and transfer stations in the state, managing waste for residents of Iowa. Field trip opportunities are readily available at most landfills and recycling centers.

Recycling and Reuse Technology Transfer Center
The RRTTC is an interdisciplinary research, education and outreach center serving Regents researchers and students, Iowa citizens, business and industry.  Through a competitive grants program, the RRTTC has funded over 30 in-depth research projects and provided research, outreach and other educational opportunities to over 140 student interns. Over 165 RRTTC publications and research reports are available. Through RRTTC reports and outreach programs that serve the business/industry community and citizens supportive of recycling in Iowa , RRTTC information reaches several thousand Iowans each year. The Materials Innovation Service (MIS), a program of the RRTTC, provides product innovation assistance to Iowa companies that are replacing mainstream materials with new and innovative composites such as cast metal, plastics and bio-materials.
