Co-op/Internship Student Responsibilities
Meet program requirements for registration with the program: attend an orientation or watch the co-op orientation video, complete a registration request card, complete the on-line faculty approval form, complete the UNI CareerLink "profile" information and resume.
Know what you have to offer and what you want to gain from your experience.
Check UNI CareerLink co-op/intern position listings and interview schedules on a regular basis. The list of available positions can change daily during peak times of the year, so you will want to check frequently to make sure you don't miss an opportunity or a deadline. Make use of direct contact with employers and Internet internship listings as needed. While the Co-op/Internship Program will help you, it is ultimately your responsibility to find the job that is right for you.
Prepare for the job search. Create a resume that presents your skills in terms of employer needs and in the most effective way; research employers and positions; prepare for your interviews.
If seeking Co-op credit, (course number xxx:179) notify the Cooperative Education/Internship Program when you have obtained a position and make an appointment to complete the paperwork that will provide documentation to register you for credit and assure that the experience will appear on your transcript.
After you complete the paperwork for your position, meet with your faculty co-op supervisor to determine the academic assignment or project to accompany your work experience. The specific shape of the assignment or project will depend upon departmental requirements and the nature of your job. Make sure that you fully understand what is required and when it is due.
Be a reliable and productive employee.
Inform the Cooperative Education/Internship Program if you have any problems at your work site that cannot be resolved with your employment supervisor.
