College of Education Co-op Requirements
Unless a department states otherwise, 50 hours of work/volunteer effort with an employer generates one credit hour of academic credit.
Curriculum & Instruction
Students with Early Childhood, Elementary or Middle Level education majors may participate. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. During summer term, education majors may also elect to go through the Department of Teaching. The designated faculty co-op supervisor for this department are: Charles May for jobs related to Early Childhood Education; Mary Herring for jobs related to Educational Technology, computer work, etc.; Barbara Safford for jobs related to libraries; David Christensen for jobs related to elementary education; Donna Douglas for jobs related to middle level education; Deborah Tidwell for jobs related to bilingual education. Major Elective; Credit TBD by faculty supervisor.

Health Physical Education and Leisure Services
Health, Promotion & Education: Students are advised to check with the faculty co-op supervisor prior to seeking any co-op placement. Dr. Dennis Cryer is the co-op faculty adviser. Major Elective; Graded basis.
Leisure Services
Students are advised to check with Dr. Rod Dieser, Dr. Kathy Scholl, or Dr. Sam Lankford. Co-op experiences will be reviewed to determine whether or not a student may receive credit for the same experience for more than one semester. Major; Credit/No Credit basis.
Physical Education
The co-op faculty supervisor is Dr. Kevin Finn. Students may receive University Elective; Graded basis for this course and it also satisfies a requirement in the coaching minor.
Athletic Training
Students are advised to check with the faculty co-op supervisor prior to seeking any co-op placements. Dr. Todd Evans is the co-op faculty advisor. Major Elective; Graded basis.
Special Education
Positions are approved by the department head. Programs for infants, children, youth and adults with disabilities represent excellent placements. For positions approved by the department head, minors will receive Graded credit. Early Childhood may earn Major Credit/University Elective Credit; Graded basis at the time of placement.
Teaching
Students will have the opportunity to use work experiences with school age children (playground/recreation supervision, camp counseling, day camp employment, youth administration, etc.) as an environment to observe student behaviors; cognitive, affective and psychomotor functioning; group interactions; communication skills; and work with a faculty to help guide structured observations. Students will be assigned to the faculty coordinator located closest to the work experience. Students will work with the assigned faculty and complete the specific requirements of that faculty which will include: journal reflections, short action research paper, observation data and other requirements as related to the placement.
