College of Business Administration Co-op Requirements

 

Unless a department states otherwise, 50 hours of work/volunteer effort with an employer generates one credit hour of academic credit.

Accounting

Students must have course numbers 120:030 and 120:031 and have a 2.7 or higher in both UNI cumulative and major GPA. Employers in both public and private accounting may prefer students who have completed Intermediate I & II and/or Cost. Students on an accounting co-op/internship are permitted to combine their co-op/intern experience with academic credit in the following manner and receive the indicated co-op/intern credit:

You should meet with your academic advisor to coordinate your schedule of accounting courses with your co-op/intern placement; otherwise, future scheduling problems may develop. Submit the Faculty Approval form ONLY IF you have completed the requirements. Faculty co-op supervisors are: C. Bauman, M. Banman, L. Christ, M. Christ, R. Francis, S. Harrast, T. Lindquist, G. Smith, and M. Wartick. A project will be assigned at the time of placement. There is a 6 credit hour undergraduate co-op maximum. University Elective; Credit/No Credit basis.

Students desiring graduate credit under 120:269 will earn Major Elective; Credit/No Credit. C. Bauman or M. Wartick are the faculty supervisor.

Economics

It is required that students complete Intermediate Macro-(920:103) and Micro-(920:104) Economic Theory prior to a placement. An overall UNI GPA of 3.0 or higher is required prior to application. The designated faculty co-op supervisor for this department is Dr. Fred J. Abraham. University Elective; Graded basis.

Finance

A minimum UNI GPA of 3.0 is required. In exceptional cases the department head may waive GPA standard. Course 160:151 (Corporate Finance) is a prerequisite. Note: Submit the electronic Faculty Approval online. The designated faculty co-op supervisor is Art Cox. University Elective; Credit/No Credit basis. Cumulative total of 6 hours of Finance Co-op credit is possible.

Management

A minimum of 2.70 UNI GPA is required, Junior/Senior standing. Credit will not be granted for on-going employment. (except as required in a formal internship or co-op education program). A written report is required (10-page minimum) conforming to the departmental co-op/internship guidelines (available in CBB 231) as well as the expectations of the faculty academic advisor and department head. A 3-hour credit MAXIMUM may be granted per experience with a 6-hour CUMULATIVE total. A minimum of 70 hours of work is required for each 1 hour of credit. Note: Submit the electronic Faculty Approval on-line. Faculty supervisor will be assigned at the time the Agreement is turned into the Management department. University Elective; Credit/No Credit basis.

Marketing

A minimum of 2.5 UNI GPA is required. Students are typically granted three (3) hours of credit. 50 hours work = 1 semester hour of credit. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR STUDENTS WITH OTHER MAJORS TO GAIN CREDIT THROUGH THIS DEPARTMENT IF THEIR EXPERIENCE IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO MARKETING, SALES, RETAILING, ADVERTISING, PRICING, PRODUCT OR DISTRIBUTION. Students may earn up to a total of twelve (12) hours of credit through two, three or possibly four different placements; maximum six (6) hours of credit per semester. Employer evaluations must be turned in before credit will be assigned. NOTE: Submit the electronic Faculty Approval on-line. If UNI GPA is 2.5 or above, Co-op Office can approve. The designated faculty co-op supervisors: Kathleen Porter. University Elective; Credit/No Credit basis. Marketing Co-op Education DOES NOTsatisfy Marketing major or Marketing minor requirements.
