Self-Managed Credential File General Information

UNI Career Services announced the move to self-managed credential files on August 1, 2003. All students graduating after August 1, 2003, now maintain their own self-managed credential files. The UNI Career Services’ staff works closely with new graduates to guide them in the process of creating and maintaining their own files (see the UNI web site for additional details).

UNI alumni were notified of the change to self-managed credential files beginning August 1, 2003. Alumni will have until July 1, 2008, to obtain their files from the UNI Career Services’ office and switch to maintaining their own self-managed files.

As of July 1, 2008, the UNI Career Services’ office will no longer keep any alumni credential files, and all files remaining on that date will be eliminated from our office records. If you wish to obtain your credential file, you must contact the UNI Career Services’ Office by July 1, 2008.

The switch to self-managed files has proven very successful and has been well received by school districts in Iowa and across the country. Self-managed credential files are more responsive and more practical in the era of portfolios and electronic applications/communications. Additionally, there is a significant cost savings to educators.

Any schools with questions regarding the switch to self-managed credential files at UNI should feel free to contact UNI Career Services for more information.

Please be advised that the discontinuation of the credential service will in no way impact academic records at the University of Northern Iowa with regard to documentation of the teacher education program or certification completion program. If educators have any questions regarding their academic record, or wish to obtain a copy of their UNI transcript, they should contact the Office of the Registrar at the University of Northern Iowa. The Office of Student Field Experiences can assist you in obtaining copies of student teaching evaluations.
