Grades
Grades will be based on
For an A you need 90% (80% for a B, etc.); + and - grades are given (80-82% is a B-, 83-86% is a B, 87-89% is a B+, etc.).
Current grades will be posted on the web after 1 and 2 weeks, and at the end of the course.
Attendance policy Excused absences are granted upon documentation of illness, funerals, and not much else. The grade adjustments to the right are in addition to points missed by not participating or turning in assignments. So…come to class. |

If you MUST miss a class, make sure it is for a good reason
Grades on assignments
Grading for major handins runs as follows: An ordinary, pretty complete job gets a check, which is a B (85 points when it comes to calculating final grades). If you do a really good job, with better explanations showing your own understanding of the material, and your work is complete, you get a +, which counts as an A (95). On the other hand, if your work is minimal and has gaps, you get a ─, a C (75). No points for a missing assignment, and you could get less than a C if you did a really shoddy job.
If you have a presentation or an excused absence on a day when there is a reading assignment due, you can turn it in the next class day. If you miss a class, you can turn in the assignment the following class day without losing any points beyond those for attendance and participation. Otherwise, an assignment one day late will bump you down one score (from check to ─, for instance). Two days late will drop you two scores (+ to -). Assignments later than two days after due date will not be accepted (zero points).
