Introduction
On behalf of the UNI Athletic Training Division, we would like to extend
our warmest greetings. In preparation for your journey to Cedar Falls,
here is some important information that may be of some need to you and
your team.
Athletic Training Services
The UNI Athletic Training Department operates two (2) co-ed athletic
training rooms. The main athletic training room is located in the Wellness
Recreation Center, Room 168 (next to the UNI Dome) and houses all sports
except volleyball, wrestling, & women’s basketball. Our adjunct
athletic training room is located in the West Gym. Volleyball, wrestling,
& women’s basketball are serviced in the West Gym Athletic
Training Room.
The athletic training room will be open approximately two (2) hours
before the game / contest and for approximately 45 minutes immediately
after the game / contest. Each athletic training facility offers a variety
of hot & cold modalities, along with hydrotherapy, electrical stimulation,
& ultrasound.
If your team is traveling with only a student athletic trainer, a
written prescription is required for treatment other than ice &
heat. If your team is traveling without an athletic trainer, please
notify us in advance. We will be happy to assist your team with its
taping & treatment needs, provided that your student-athletes have
a written prescription for treatment & provide their own taping
supplies.
Water, ice bags, cups, towels, & biohazard supplies will be provided
on your sideline & in your locker room. A UNI student athletic trainer
will be present on your sidelines should you need further assistance.
A team physician and/or orthopedic surgeon will be in attendance and/or
on-call for all games / contests. Vacuum splints, a spineboard &
cervical collars, a scoop stretcher, & a “chariot” field
chair will be also be available. Sartori Hospital is located approximately
two (2) miles away should the need arise.
