Why did you choose the Athletic Training Education Program at UNI?

I chose the athletic training program at UNI because I had heard of its outstanding reputation and the great experiences you get from working with several sports on and off campus. After coming and talking to Biff about it when I was a senior, I knew it was the place for me.

Have there been any healthcare professionals who have mentored or inspired you?

Yes, I tore my ACL when I was a freshman in high school, and my physical therapist, Jon Woltz, was amazing to work with. He got me interested in the field of athletic training and physical therapy as he had both degrees. He has motivated me throughout my educational experience and has inspired me to be an athletic trainer and physical therapist.

What field experiences have you enjoyed the most and found the most rewarding?

My experience at NU has been wonderful. I have enjoyed getting to know all of the students and have been able to work a wide range of injuries. Tricia has been wonderful to work with as she is an outstanding athletic trainer and mentor. She does a great job of encouraging me and helping me to become a more well-rounded student and one day athletic trainer.

Any advice or tips for incoming students or other interested persons?

Don’t get frustrated with the hours. I know it can seem overwhelming at first, but it is such a great experience…make the most out of every day you are in the athletic training room!

What are future plans after UNI?

I am going to be attending Des Moines University for physical therapy. I hope to work in the Cedar Valley as an athletic trainer & physical therapist after completing my schooling.
