November 2005 Athletic Training Student of the Month

Leo Miller

1st Year Athletic Training Student

Hometown: LeRoy, MN

High School: LeRoy-Ostrander High

High School: Home (Miller High)

I chose Athletic Training as my major mostly out of my love for sports and also because of the opportunity to work with people. The reason that I chose UNI's program was because of the great placement percentage that they have and the great athletic success that they have accomplished.

I was inspired by a physician at the recent UNI open wrestling tournament. I had the oppotunity to help him stitch up an eye and I was impressed with the professional way that the procedure was performed.

My recent work with the softball and swimming teams at UNI was the most exciting field experience that I have had during a field experience yet. I had a great time learning with the athletes and doing a few shoulder e-vals. The case studies that I had the oppotunity to work on were also very rewarding and a great learning oppotunity.

My advice would be to jump right in and do anything that you can. Don't hang back and watch too much because you will learn a lot more if you get involved and ask questions.

I look to go on and get my Masters in Athletic Training somewhere and to eventually end up practicing at a
Division 1 university.
