ONE OF the major resources in the Kamerick Art Building, for art students and faculty as well as the surrounding community, is the spacious and elegant Gallery of Art. Each year, this facility sponsors nine major art and design exhibitions of work from all parts of the country, and a number of smaller auxiliary shows.
Each year the gallery features new work by the art faculty in the fall semester and the Annual Juried Art Student Exhibition in the spring. The student exhibition is a competitive show with thousands of dollars in awards given for the best artworks. UNI's supportive and passionate faculty have helped me to develop a strong direction in my artwork. The diversity of teaching approaches along with many exhibition opportunities allowed me to grow as an ambitious artist from concept to final presentation. The high expectations of the faculty have been vital to my undergraduate career and have given me the experience and confidence necessary for entering graduate school.

University of New Mexico The ability to "see," to tranform ideas into reality and to think critically are just a couple of things I gained from the UNI art department faculty and fellow students. Those skills, and others, are now important daily parts of my personal and professional life. My experience as a student at UNI was excellent and one I will always remember.

gallery of art The Gallery of Art director also oversees the UNI Permanent Art Collection, which has grown to include hundreds of original artworks (in various media) by such prominent artists as Berenice Abbott, Josef Albers, Eugene Atget, M.C. Escher, Salvador Dali, Romare Bearden, Pablo Picasso, George Grosz, Philip Guston, R.B. Kitaj, and Jerry Uelsmann. Many of these pieces are conveniently on public view in the university’s Rod Library, which also has its own art collection.
These collections are complemented by a number of major public works that are permanently installed throughout the campus, as part of the Iowa Art in State Buildings project. These include commissioned works by such artists as Fletcher Benton, Walter Dusenberry, Dale Eldred, Dennis Oppenheim, Roberta Lord, Janet Loftquist, and Cork Marcheschi.
The Gallery of Art provides educational intern opportunities for students who would like to learn about arts administration and the operation of galleries through the university's Cooperative Education and Work Study programs.
