More than 600 American Humanics students and faculty as well as nearly 200 nonprofit and corporate leaders took part in AHMI, a unique opportunity to network with nonprofit executives, participate in simulated case studies and a national collegiate dialogue, and attend workshops led by local and national experts in nonprofit management. The University of Northern Iowa was well represented by Campus Executive Director Dr. Julianne Gassman and 20 other UNI faculty and students. The Management/Leadership Institute is the capstone experience for junior and senior-level college students earning AH certification in nonprofit leadership. It is held annually during the first week in January and rotates to a different city each year.
American Humanics is a national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofits dedicated to preparing the next generation of nonprofit sector leaders. Founded in 1948, the organization is celebrating its 60th Anniversary throughout 2008. American Humanics is affiliated with more than 70 colleges and universities nationwide including the University of Northern Iowa, and partners with more than 60 national nonprofit organizations including the YMCA, the March of Dimes, and the Girl Scouts of the USA.
