Academic Mentors in the Academic Advising Office work to help students reach their full potential. Mentoring sessions are designed to be a personalized experience where students can discuss their individual need, whether they involve grades, transitioning to UNI, career or personal goals, or overall university success.

 

Academic Mentoring is voluntary program open to any UNI student who is interested in meeting one-on-one with a Mentor on a regular basis throughout the semester.  Learn more about Academic Mentoring at the Frequently Asked Questions page.

 

Your Academic Mentor will...

  • assist in organizing and planning
    provide encouragement and support
    identify areas of strength and improvement
    be respectful and non-judgmental
    help find resources on campus
    create strategies to achieve academic and personal goals
    empower students to take ownership

 

Your Academic Mentor will not...

  • take care of your responsibilities for you
  • talk to professors on your behalf
  • serve as an area specific tutor
  • make decisions for you
