How Do I Get into a Course or a Course Section with No Open Seats?

Use these suggestions for getting into a closed course or a section with no open seats:

  1. Is another section of the class open? If so, can you rearrange your schedule so that you can add the class you really want to take?

  2. Get on the electronic waiting list if offered! Departments may use waiting lists for priority when seats become available in a course section as well as to gauge if another section could be opened. Note that not all departments use electronic waiting lists, and each department uses waiting lists differently. Check with the department offering the course regarding their waiting list process, or view any departmental information in the appropriate semester's Schedule of Classes book.

  3. Check back regularly to the open course section on Web Registration. We recommend checking the web registration system through MyUNIverse at least twice per day. Other students will be making changes to their schedule so keep your eyes open for these potential seats.

  4. Go to the instructor or the department office to request into a course section. In some departments it is up to the instructor to decide who to let in...in others it is the department office that maintains the waiting lists.
