Tips for Success from the STARs:

- Visit Campus!
- You never know until you try! Visit as many campuses as possible so you can find
out what is important to you as a student. You can compare and contrast your possible choices to find that college
that just "feels right".
- Apply Early!
- The sooner you get your application in, the sooner you can hear a decision, the
sooner you can move forward with the process! There is no deadline for admission into UNI, but we encourage you to
apply sooner than later so you can fill out other information, such as your Residence Hall contract and Financial Aid
forms.
- Research Majors!
- Looking into different programs a college has to offer may help you make a
decision when deciding on an institution. To look at the 120+ majors UNI has to offer, visit www.uni.edu/majors.
- Ask Questions!
- If you have a question about UNI or any institution, don't hesitate to ask! People are
here to help you, so take advantage of them! You can e-mail the STARs at stars@uni.edu or call the UNI Admissions office
at 319-273-2281. Online resources are also very helpful. Explore the UNI website to learn more!
- Apply for Housing!
- As soon as you are accepted, contract for housing! It is assigned on a first come first
served basis, so the sooner you apply the better chance you have at getting a top choice. Search possible choices through
virtual tours at http://www.uni.edu/dor. Again, there is no deadline, but the sooner
the better!
- Financial Aid!
- Fill out the FAFSA after January 1st. Remember, NEVER pay to fill out the FAFSA! It's
FREE for everyone! Apply for scholarships, aka free money! Fill out the University Scholarship at
http://www.uni.edu/finaid. Some scholarships come sooner than others, so look
into this early! Search for local scholarships as well.
- Sign up for Orientation!
- The dates will be sent to accepted students via mail in the spring. Sign up as soon as
you can to reserve a date that works best for you. All students are required to attend an orientation session. You will
meet tons of new people and get more acclimated with the UNI campus.
- Send us your Transcripts!
- When you graduate, remind your high school to send us your final transcripts and any
college or AP credit you have earned. This will help with scheduling for classes during orientation and ensuring you met
all admission requirements.
