I transferred to UNI because of its perfect size and what it had to offer. When I visited, I loved the campus and the people. When I started researching, I knew that college was something that I was going to remember for the rest of my life. I wanted UNI to be part of that.
The people. Yes, you can have the best facilities and best sports and best everything, but if you don't have great people to share those things with, it doesn't mean anything. Everyone at UNI is kind and accepting. Every club and organization makes a point to include everyone.
I was surprised with what UNI has to offer. There are so many organizations and clubs on campus, whether it's sports, academics, or for fun. UNI has something for everyone so the transition for me was easy and I felt like I belonged here.
On campus, I'm involved with multiple things. I am in the Student Admissions Ambassadors, PRSSA, PRide, HerCampus UNI, and many others. I used to be involved with intramurals and the UNI Rugby Club, but had to make room for organizations with my major. Each organization offers something unique and fun. My involvement at UNI has been the best decision of my life. Getting involved in campus is a great networking opportunity and you meet so many people. Before I started getting involved, I was always scared of going to meetings and practices with people I didn't know. I quickly learned that I had nothing to fear and everyone was so nice, friendly, and understanding. When I started getting involved, it was addicting and I kept joining more and more organizations and clubs. I was happier and I even got better grades because I was more motivated.
My academic experience has been constantly changing. I've changed my major 3 different times and have finally decided on Public Relations as my major and it's great. I've been in Biology, Business, back to Biology, and finally Public Relations. It's given me a lot of general knowledge and has made me a well-rounded individual. I have my favorite teachers. It seems like the more you talk with a professor, the more you'll like them and the easier the class will be.
I chose Public Relations because I love talking to people. PR allows me to work with many different industries and many different people. I am involved in the Public Relations clubs on campus and even other organizations build on the skills that I've learned through my major. SAA, for example, allows me to talk to prospective students and families. Whether you're going to classes or sporting events, I use communication everywhere and I enjoy watching and listening to others communicate.
Becoming who I want to be. At UNI, I've learned so many things and skills that will be used for the rest of my life and I'm still learning. I am meeting the best people and am having the time of my life.
My favorite place on campus is actually Lang Hall. A lot of my classes are in that building, so it's where I spend most of my time. Also, it's such a beautiful building with a lot of artwork and design work. Martin Luther King Jr. also spoke there, so you know that puts Lang Hall up there on the list.
Don't go to school where your high school friends go. Go to a school because YOU want to go there. It's going to be the best 4 years of your life (yes, better than high school), so do a lot of research and be confident with your decision.
I will remember my time with friends and the great times and events at UNI, especially the men's basketball win over Kansas in 2010.
I plan on pursuing my career in Public Relations and proudly represent the college. I am looking forward to creating campaigns and ideas for companies that will revolutionize the world. I want people to ask how I've done something and I can attribute my success to the experiences I've had at UNI.
