This course was taught by: Dr. Jennifer Walz Garrett, Communication Sciences and Disorders; Dr. Amy Staples, Special Education; Dr. Evette Edmister, Communications Sciences and Disorders. Sessions were delivered via ICN with work efforts facilitated through Wiki Space.
Center at Iowa DOE Conference: Pursuing the Promise
June 13, 2012 Center faculty members and past project participants led a variety of presentations on Day 3 of the Special Education Conference in Des Moines hosted by the Iowa Department of Education. Dr. Edmister, Dr. Garrett, Dr. Staples, and Susie Lund represented the Center faculty and staff while previous participants included: Julie Freed (GWAEA), Yvette Bardole (AEA8), Maggie Pickett (GWAEA), Tammy Ales (Muscatine), Sarah Hetrick (West Branch), Rochelle Maxfield (Sioux City), Bridget Thompson (Lake Mills) and Kristi Wickre (Des Moines). Topics included supporting communication, writing, shared & guided reading, development of literacy kits to support instruction, supporting families, and self-selected reading & building your library. Many thanks to the educational professionals who spoke first-hand of the knowledge gained by participating in our projects. And, of course, thanks to the Iowa Department of Education for the opportunity to share the knowledge resulting from research funded through contracts with them.
