PRE-PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TEST (PPST)
Praxis I

 

The purpose of the Praxis I, Pre-Professional Skills Test is to assess competency in the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics for students in teaching majors. The PPST is required for admission to the UNI Teacher Education program. Specific score requirements are:

1. You must score a minimum of 170 on each individual test, AND

2. All three scores must total at least 522.

 

Registration Information

  • Registration deadlines for the paper-based exam are in the Information and Registration Bulletins and online.

  • To schedule an appointment to take the computer-based PPST at UNI, call (319) 273-6023.

  • The subtests for the computer-based exam can be scheduled at individual times, or all together in a 4.5 hour block.

  • Have a Mastercard, Visa, Discover, or American Express card available when you call for a computer-based exam appointment.

  • Testing information is available at Academic Learning Center, 007 Innovative Teaching and Technology Center (ITT), (formerly East Gym).

 

General Information

The approximate time for UNI to receive official score reports take:

 
  • Computer-based reading and mathematic scores -- 2 - 3 weeks (examinee will see score at the end of the exam)

  • Computer-based writing score -- 3 - 5 weeks

  • Paper-based scores -- 4 - 6 weeks.
