Program Information for B.A. Technology Management
A UNI & DMACC-Carroll 2+2 Partnership - Offered Onsite in Carroll and Boone, Iowa
Why should I major in Technology Management?
The Technology Management major provides a background in two areas where businesses see the most dramatic changes: the use of technology for doing business and the management necessary to function effectively, which includes harnessing all the human and material resources needed to be effective and profitable in increasingly decentralized organizations.
This UNI 2+2 degree program is offered with Des Moines Area Community College – Carroll Campus and Boone Campus, but other interested community colleges are welcome. The next program is scheduled to begin Fall 2008.
Why is having knowledge of technology important in organizations?
Because (1) changes in technology change the way we do business; (2) technology changes rapidly and must be understood and monitored; and (3) technology is expensive so decisions affect company profits.
What are the technologies that all managers and savvy employees should understand?
These include communication/information technology, energy and power, manufacturing and construction. You do not need to be an expert in using any of these technologies, but a basic understanding, including their rapid change, prepares graduates to effectively manage the resources and people around them. The students in this program can expect to gain these and other essential skills that will serve them well in today’s global economy.
Are knowledge of leadership, management and communication skills emphasized in the program?
Absolutely. These are the basic skills needed by anyone in organizations today and are essential for helping companies be successful. These same skills are also important for anyone wishing to move up in a company
What are the career opportunities?
Students with the UNI Technology Management major are prepared for a wide spectrum of careers in today’s fast changing economy. Employment opportunities include sales and distribution, personnel work, employee training, safety, supervision and management. Many of the people in the program use the degree to move up in companies where they are already employed.
It is important to remember that this program provides the courses and the credential (bachelor’s degree) necessary to continue moving up in most companies, including management opportunities.
