History of 2+2
UNI and community colleges have successfully offered 2+2 partnership programs since 1995. All degree programs include the same classes offered on the UNI campus.
1995UNI/Des Moines Area Community College/Carroll community offer first 2+2 program. B.A. elementary education teaching degree fills need for teachers in central Iowa; 88 graduates; 90% now teach in central Iowa. The start of UNI’s 2+2 project was funded with federal monies.
2002UNI/DMACC/Carroll offer technology management degree; eight students graduate in May 2004.
2003UNI partners with North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa Central Community College to pilot a technology education teaching degree program. Early childhood education major is added for DMACC/Carroll 2+2 students.
2004UNI and community colleges plan to expand opportunities for persons who are place-bound or career changing to earn selected bachelors degrees at local community colleges.
2+2 coordinator for DMACC programs hired jointly with DMACC and Iowa Board of Regent. This is probably the first such joint appointment with a community college and the Board.
20052+2 article in Northern Iowa Today
In May the largest 2+2 elementary education cohort of 23 students graduate at DMACC/Carroll.
UNI partners with Western Iowa Tech Community College, Eastern Iowa Community College, and Northeast Iowa Community College to offer the Instructional Strategist/ Elementary Education (ISEE) B.A. degree program. Twenty-eight students from three community colleges enroll as the first cohort for this elementary education program with a special education emphasis. |
